Days after the office of the Accountant General of the Federation went up in flames, the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission CAC in Abuja has been gutted by fire. The building located in Maitama District Abuja, went up in flames on Wednesday morning April 15. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. The fire is said to have engulfed the last floor of the seven storey building, destroying valuables and other items. When contacted, spokesperson of the Federal Fire Service, DSF Ugo Huan said fire fighters were on their way to the scene.

A Southwest youth leader of the APC has been called out after he dismissed the concerns of those complaining of hunger amid the Coronavirus lockdown.  Lawal Aketi Paff wrote: "In the last 15days how many people have died of hunger in Nigeria? But eleven people have died of Corona Virus in the said period." His post was considered insensitive and people called him out for it. See some reactions below.

It has been claimed in a new report that gay actor Jussie Smollett knew his ‘attackers’ and was in a 'sexual relationship' with one of the Nigerian brothers.  The former Empire actor is awaiting trial for allegedly paying $3,500 to the two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo to stage a racist, homophobic attack against him back in 2019. But has repeatedly maintain innocence about asking the body builders to stage the attack, saying the payment he made to them was for fitness training. A report by Page Six now claims that Smollett was in a sexual relationship with one of his alleged attackers,  Abimbola “Abel” Osundairo. The publication reported that the two men met frequently at an upscale gay bathhouse. “They used to party together and he had a sexual relationship with [Abel]. A 21-year-old meat seller has been arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Yakubu Diko has been remanded in prison after he was accused of tricking the young girl into his home before raping her about three weeks ago. Abiodun Essiet, a Special Adviser to the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area council (AMAC), said Diko approached the playground where the girl was with her peers and chased everyone except the little girl, The ICIR reports. He beckoned to the girl, pretending he wanted to send her on an errand. When she followed him into the house, Diko allegedly squeezed a towel in the girl’s mouth, held her down and sexually abused her. He then warned her not to tell anyone what had happened. However, on the third day after the incident, the victim started bleeding while trying to urinate and the pain made her cry. It was then that her parents became aware that she had been raped. ...

Nine COVID19 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease at the Abuja Isolation Center. This brings to 20 the number of COVID-19 patients that have been discharged from the center.  The federal capital territory administration (FCTA) announced this development in a tweet on Wednesday morning April 15. NINE (9) NEWLY DISCHARGED IN THE FCT As at 5:50am, 15th April, 2020. Residents are urged to continue to #StayHome and #StaySafe by adhering to precautionary measures laid down. Out of the nine (9) newly discharged, two (2) were treated at the National Hospital Isolation & Treatment Centre while the other seven (7) were treated at the UniAbuja Teaching Hospital Isolation Centre, Gwagwalada FCT currently has 58 confirmed cases of COVID19

Prolific Nigerian composer, musicologist, pianist, and author, Professor Akin Euba has died less than two weeks to his 85th birthday. Professor Euba died on the evening of Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Dr. Akin Euba was Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music at the University of Pittsburgh until his retirement in 2011 Euba's scholarly interests include the musicology and ethnomusicology of modern interculturalism. He has organized regular symposia on music in Africa and the Diaspora at Churchill College, Cambridge as well as the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, according to his bio on Wikipedia. These events have featured such notable composers and scholars as J. H. Kwabena Nketia and Halim El-Dabh. Some Masquerades have been arrested in Anambra State for defying a stay-at-home order issued by the the state government, over the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.  The Anambra State Government had ordered a restriction on movement and closure of markets in the state for 14 days.  The Masquerades who flouted the order were arrested yesterday at Nkwo Uga, in Uga community of  Aguata Local Government Area.
